”I sea love”
.
I hope everyone is looking forward to the summer! When it comes to these wonderful warmer months, the topic of water almost always comes up - whether we are planning beach days, pool parties, or being reminded to drink more because of the heat. In this post I wanted to take my spin on summer fun and playing in the water. I want to discuss a topic I am passionate about… the health of our oceans.
.
Being raised in Sweden I´ve been fortunate enough for beach days to be a common occurrence. And now when each year seems to be a little bit warmer, cooling off with a swim are for many a must to beat the summer heat. But in order to be able to enjoy the water this season, we need to do our part and make sure that our oceans, rivers, and lakes stay clean. Lets show some love!
.
I am by no means an expert on the topic of our oceans, and I´ve already talked more than enough about skipping single-use plastics. So this time, and this summer, let’s keep it simple. Whether we enjoy diving, surfing, or relaxing on the beach, just… clean up after ourselfs. And let’s explore and appreciate the ocean without interfering with wildlife or removing rocks and beautiful coral.
.
So for all of us that love splashing around and want to keep doing that in clean waters, let’s all do our part. Let’s show the oceans, and the 80% of earth animals that lives in them, some big love this summer!
.
I’ll sea ya all out there;)

”The Balance of nature”
.
Yeah, the great balancing act, its just like a big card house. Take one away and the whole thing comes crumbling down. That’s just like the environment. All the animals in an environment have to live together in balance. Biodiversity is the ring leader in the environmental circus. It helps the environment keep its balance. Any change can have really bad results on the natural resources we humans use around the world.
.
Exactly how a change in biodiversity affects the environment differs from time to time, but we know two things is for sure: When humans change an environment we lose biodiversity and these changes have clear winners and losers.
.
The big losers are animals that live longer, are bigger, don’t have many babies, and are specific to one environment. Yeah, this kind of sounds like some of your favorite zoo animals doesn’t it? Like polar bears, elephants and gorillas.
.
But you know what, the biggest losers of all are us humans! Not only because we are the ones responsible for environmental changes, it also means that the natural resources for us humans are at risk. This is troubling because humans rely heavily on natural resources created by the environment, like water and plants.
.
It really should be in our best interest to preserve the balance so that animals in an area aren’t harmed by human activities. If we destroy the environment, we could be left with undrinkable water and less land. Can you imagine a world with no food, poor air, or dirty water?
.
So how can we stop this imbalance in nature? Well, use environmentally friendly products! Leave cool plants undisturbed. And don’t go trampling where you shouldn’t just to take awesome selfies. Things like that.
.
Conservation may be boring, but once spieces are lost to extinction, no amount of positive thinking can restore them:)

”Peace Please”
.
Ready for an icy adventure, gang? Here at Andys animals we’re heading north – far north! – to meet one of nature’s toughest animals. The Polar bear. These are seriously big bears my friends, adult polar bears can measure over 2.5m long and weigh around 680kg. Their huge size and weight make them the largest living meat eaters on Earth! But despite their size, polar bears are actually excellent swimmers, and have been spotted in waters over 100km offshore.
.
Although good swimmers, polar bears aren’t quick enough to reliably catch seals in open water. Instead, they depend on the ice as a hunting platform. They wait near seal breathing holes or at the ice’s edge for a seal to surface. They then snatch if from the sea and…gulp!
.
Sadly, these incredible creatures are rapidly vanishing and the biggest threat to polar bears is melting ice. Yes, good ol’ climate change. These bears actually only have one single enemy on the whole planet, and that is us humans. Rising global temperatures means that sea ice is melting earlier and forming later each year, leaving polar bears in a really… uncool situation (see what I did there?).
.
Climate change is heating up the Arctic faster than anywhere else, and sea ice is shrinking 15 percent per decade. That means the polar bear’s going to be really rare but the year 2050. And right now the only solution for the the polar bear to have some peace and quiet is for us to cease fire, and address our way of living once and for all. We CAN still save these amazing animals!
.
Peace out.

”Into the wild”
.
If you’re reading this caption, it’s a pretty good bet that, like me, you think the cheetah is pretty awesome. Every centimetre of their frames, from their large nasal passages that maximize air intake, to their flat tails that help them steer at full speed, is an adaptation that helps them to explode after their prey like bullets. With their compact heads, skinny legs and spring-like spines, they’re living, breathing examples of how nature can rival the greatest achievements of human engineering. And also, it´s Africa’s most endangered big cat.
.
To understand why cheetah populations are so fragile, you need to realize how different they are to all the other cat animals like lions, tigers and leopards. In fact, cheetahs are not like other big cats at all.
.
Cheetahs have this superweird social system where females range across big areas, a female can range over 4,000km² – twice the size of London. But they also like to stay out of each other’s way; so you might only find one cheetah in that area.
.
These huge space requirements mean even the biggest wildlife reserves can only harbour limited numbers. And if they don’t live in the protective zones, they are rapidly being reduced by loss of habitats and poachers. Up to 95% die before they even reach three months. This means, we need more and bigger protective areas.
.
So the good news is that humans and cheetahs can survive and thrive together if we can create the right conditions. If people can be persuaded to find a little room in their worlds and in their hearts for these shy, fragile cats, there’s a chance to prevent them from sprinting further along the path to extinction.

”Help me name this artwork!”
.
Pretty cool name I came up with there, huh? No, you probably guessed right… this time I want YOUR help. What do you think I should call this piece? The best suggestion will not only be a part when this hangs in epic art houses all over the world (lol), but also a beautiful shoutout here in my stories.
.
To get you going, let me tell you why I love giraffes. Well in fact, I relate to them on a personal level.
.
They're tall, but can also be very silly and clumsy. Watching a giraffe run is one of the most graceful things you will ever witness. On the other hand, watching giraffes walking for the first time are some of the funniest things you will ever see. Their limbs are just so gangly they don't know what to do with them sometimes. Thats pretty relatable to me;)
.
Also, they have NO idea how to fight. Sure, the hind legs are good for kicking, but the giraffe has to be at a certain angle for that to work, so what do they do? They randomly swing their necks at each other to settle anything from a family spat to a full-fledged giraffe argument. IT LOOKS SO SILLY. Since I’ve never been in a fight, I too would look totally ridiculous. Thank god that will never happened, since I never get upset.
.
Well, that’s not totally true. There’s really one big thing that separates me from this majestic animal, and that thing does makes me upset… the poor giraffe is hunted! Yeah, the number of giraffes has plummeted 40% since 1985, and for such silly reasons as charm bracelets. And pillows. And boots and bible covers and knife handles. Because its LEGAL TO IMPORT these things! This, from an animal that’s faces extinction in the wild. Yes, this upsets me.
.
You couldn't ask for a more fantastic animal in my opinion, so head over to your nearest wildlife foundation and see what you can do to save this mighty creature!

”Icebearg”
.
Hi friends, and welcome to a new episode of Andy climat change guide. Today we’re going to tap into something really cool (pun intended), ICE! Okay, so the Arctic sea ice just hit its lowest since measurements began, so what would actually happen if (when?) ALL the glaciers melt?
.
Sadly, scientists have a pretty good idea of how glaciers melting would change the world because, well, they already are!
.
First, and most obvious; rising sea levels. All coastal cities, essentially, would get the Waterworld treatment, including London, New York, and Tokyo.
.
And it's not just all about rising water: there's a whole list of other biblical catastrophes in store for us. Melting the ice that covers Antarctica could cause massive earthquakes worldwide, for example. But wait, there’s more! All this shake-up would cause active volcanoes in Antarctica to erupt, as well. Yay!
.
Here’s a neat bonus treat for you, biologists thinks prehistoric viruses currently trapped in Antarctic ice would be unleashed if the ice sheet were to melt.
.
And our friends the polar bears would of course be totally goners.
.
Does all this sounds like a super duper future? Clearly, we have to do our part each and every day to make sure we are reducing our impact on global warming by decreasing our greenhouse gas emissions. Here’s two quick tips for you; switch off your lights and use less water. Now go save the world!

”Twowards love”.
.
So hey, we’ve just made it through another Earth Day, where we spend one day focusing on how we can protect our world from danger. As wonderful of an idea as this is, shouldn’t we spend more than one day to shed some earthly appreciation? It deserves a lot more love than it receives.
.
Take a look around. Notice the details of a tree and and the colorful grass as summer is walking towards us. Nature is all about growth. Just as we grow every day, the trees and grass of the earth do as well. Our world has breathtaking views that were created without the help of us humans, and we are pretty lucky to been given the opportunity to watch these magnificent wonders shine.
.
As we go walk through life living in one place, we tend to forget about the other cultures surrounding us. When we fall asleep, another country is waking up. When we layer up to play outside in the snow, another person is tanning under the sun. Seven continents, 200 countries… and we all call the same earth our home.
.
Above all, despite wars, riots, and attacks that we bring to the world, the earth still provides life. Each day is a new day, peace is always achievable. If we walk the path towards love.
.
So make something out of what we learnt this year's Earth Day - give a little back to a planet, a home to all, that clearly deserves more than it receives. From now on, lets make every day Earth day. Together.

”Before they pass away”
.
Hi gang. I’m just back from spending some time in Italy, enjoying delicious pizza and witnessing some the worlds most beautiful art.
.
The city of Rome is filled with such sacred beauty and unique architectural structure and art works created by the world’s most famous artists. We even took our time and visited Vatican City, where we jumped on a 3-hour long guided tour covering some of the most beautiful art ever created.
.
There where walls and ceilings with beautiful artwork created more than two thousand years ago. Statues and paintings showed heroes of ancient Troy and Athens. We saw paintings and cloth textiles and of course, the Sistine Chapel, with the most famous works of art ever created.
.
I got so into it, I started digging deeper, researching even older art. Where did it all begin? I´m glad you asked!
.
In 1994, amateur cave explorers discovered a cave in southern France that contained hundreds of handprints and black and red line drawings. This cave, the Chauvet Cave. as it has come to be called, contains the oldest known art in the world. Almost 40.000 years old.
.
And the images? Ancient rhinos and the now-extinct auroch. If that doesn’t get you thinking, what will? Two animals, where one is extinct and the other one heading the same way, leaving only art left to show future generations that they ever existed. It’s a scary thought.
.
I created this artwork the moment I got back from Rome, as a tribute to the beautiful art of ancient times, combining that with the beloved endangered Rhino.
.
It really means a lot to me, and I hope you like it!

”A piece of peace, my dear”
.
Hi friends. You know what, I just realized I actually never taken the opportunity to tell you wonderful followers anything about myself! You’re all showing so much love every single post, so I’m going to do something different with this caption and give you a small introduction of myself.
.
I’m Andy, a graphic designer who grew up in a small town in north of Sweden, a place rich in forest and wildlife. After growing up (with a lot of pets) I graduated as a graphic designer and pursued my dreams of working with advertising in the ”big” city, Stockholm.
.
But after a few years, living, working and existing in the city, I more and more came to the conclusion advertising  wasn’t what my heart longed for. So I quit the agency (and the general feeling of unease) to try to find my true calling.
.
I got offered the amazing opportunity to work as designer at a small start-up that focuses on making lesser known non-profit organizations, well… better known:) Nad finding creative ways to raise money for threatened animals, children in need etc. I jumped on it, and let me tell you... It really fills my heart working with purpose.
.
And of course, this niche goes side by side with my IG account. Using the power that art contains combined with the power of social media, I really think there there is an opportunity for us as artists to make a movement for important causes! And my heart lies with the animals, it always have.
.
So I hope my art not only brings a smile to your face, but also makes you stop and think for a moment about some of the important issues that is happening to our planet!
.
Now I am curious. Who are you, and what to you love to do?

”Rise and shine”
.
Good morning, It’s time for a wake up call! This is a totally new segment on the Andy Okay feed. Let’s name it; ”I cannot believe it’s legal…”
.
First up: Pet tigers!
.
Many people are entranced with the idea of having such a beautiful and powerful animal as a tiger as a pet. And you know what. In a lot of countries, they totally can! It is a shocking fact that there are actually more “pet” tigers held privately as pets than there are in the wild.
.
Some people get so smitten by these might creatures that they decide to purchase a tiger of their own. If that doesn’t impress their friends what will, right?  Well, what they get  is a recklessly wild animal for years and even decades – that is, if they can even afford care for it.
.
In fact, tigers are surprisingly cheap to purchase as a pet. People can purchase a tiger for anywhere from $900. But the costs of keeping and caring for a wild tiger are extremely high. Just the fact that a tiger eats over over 15 pounds of meat every single day should scare even the most wealthy hipster away.
.
But that’s not even the biggest issue, the hardest part of keeping a tiger is the issue of space. The end result is that often tigers live in way too small spaces, and tigers living in tiny pens will literally lose their minds, becoming hyperaggressive and attacking anything that comes near. Yay.
.
Many animal rights organizations work tirelessly to make it illegal to own tigers, lets hope that they succeed. Because the last thing this endangered species need, is to spend his life in a up and coming neighborhood watching reruns of Friends. This one belongs in the wild.

Hello there!
.
Can you guess why the snow leopard is sometimes called the ghost cat? Other leopards have orange or dark brown fur with black spots, but the snow leopard’s smoky gray color and blurred black markings make it look very different, and perfectly blend in with the surroundings.
.
But this cat's beautiful, dense coat that keeps it alive, is also the reason the "ghost cat" is in serious trouble!
.
The skin of large cats are very valuable in traditional Asian medicine. Tigers are the prefered species for this purpose, but tigers are so rare that it is almost impossible to find one in the wild so snow leopards are substituted for tigers.
.
When you consider that the people who live near snow leopards often earn less than 300 dollars per year and that a dead snow leopard is worth up to $10,000, it isn’t hard to understand why snow leopards are at risk.
.
Something has to be done, and there are in fact people out there dedicated to prevent the Snow Leopards extinction. One of them perhaps is someone you’ve heard of… following the success of Titanic in 1997, 24-year-old @leonardodicaprio established the @leonardodicapriofdn in 1998, a non-profit organization devoted to help the troubled animals of the world.
.
I love it when people in powerful positions (and with a little more money than us average Joe’s) choose to use their assets for the good of the planet, and I really hope it works as an inspiration for other famous individuals in their circles.
