We tend to store a lot of tension and emotions in our hips. Here are 3 easy wall stretches that you can do at home without any equipment, to help release some of the tension in your hips!. Hip Stretches: 
1️⃣ Wall Straddle Stretch: Scoot your butt as close to the wall as you could and open your legs out into a straddle position. Ease yourself slowly down, and place your hands in the inside of your thighs to gently ease it closer to the ground. 
2️⃣ Figure Four Wall Stretch: Place one ankle across the other thigh. Bring the leg on the wall down into a 90 degree angle, bringing the other leg horizontal and closer to your chest. Flex your toes to protect your knee. Keep pressing that leg close to your chest and you can rock side to side to open up the stretch. 
3️⃣ Frog Wall Stretch: Move further away from the wall to begin. Bring the soles of your feet to the wall, flex your toes outwards and bring your  knees in line with your ankles. Gently ease your thighs to the ground, and place your hands on them to further open up your hips. 
Try these stretches at least 2-3 times a week and feel the difference in your hips! . .

Today’s pose: #lowlunge

This one felt good in my hips as well as the stretch I got in my lunged leg. I did do something to my knee trying to get up, but I still am moving so it be ohk 🤣

I can’t believe this challenge is almost over. I’m actually really sad, because even on my shit day I still made sure to show tf up for this challenge. I may not have done anything even remotely correct, but coming into the daily pose & just breathing, letting my mind wander off, has been such a rewarding experience & I can only hope they do more challenges like this one!

Happy baby hip opener for day 2 of #smileandyoga2019 how can you not be happy in this pose? This was one of the first poses I was introduced to on my #yogajourney  about sevenish (?) years ago and I could only reach one foot at a time and couldn't stay in it for too long. Now it's like second nature (like a baby) .

The asanas are just a small part of what yoga entails. For me personally; the breathing techniques have had the biggest impact on my life and I’ve indulged in knowing I’ve helped guide others through this too. 
As you can see in this video i use the inhalation’s and exhalations to deepen my lack of mobility in my hips. Without this; I would not be able to guides my knees closer to the ankles in the “Knee to Ankle Pose” - “Agnistambhasana”. Although quite invasive if you are very tight in the hips; it is a great pose to work up to. If you’d like to tips on how to practice this; send me a message and I will guide you safely 🧘‍♀️ .

Have you been abusing your feet in shoes that are...too small, tight, pointy, etc?? What can you do?  TOE STRETCH!!*. Put your toes (all of them) on a wall and press down until you feel sensation.  Hold for 30 seconds and repeat on other side. Oh, and stay away from flip-flops! *if you have bunions, Turf Toe, PF or other medical conditions, check with you doctor before adding this to your daily stretch routine.  #stretchforathletes #yogaforbeginners #yogafortheinflexible

30 Day’s of Yoga Challenge: Day 1. Today I took my “today” pictures... I HATE the word ‘before’. Using that word suggests that there hasn’t been a valiant effort in the past or present to make a lifestyle change. I have been fighting to make change for over 5 years, and I think I have about 6 “before” photos. So, today I pledged to do yoga once a day for 30 days. There is a common misconception about hip OPENERS in yoga. 🤭

And it’s that the most effective way to OPEN our hips is to go to the end range of motion and allow PASSIVE relaxation into a pose. ❌

As a PT...I strongly DISAGREE! In order to safely create functional mobility in our hips, we must learn controlled ACTIVE movement into our restrictions. 💯

Directions.
🔸Lay on your back, and scoot your hips all the way up to the base of the wall
🔸Reach legs up, and slowly begin to let the legs fall to the ground
🔸Take long deep breathes, close your eyes.
🔸Engage the quads and flex the feet to keep your joints safe
🔸Hold 1 minute in each position to allow your body to adjust and relax into the stretch.
🔹Remember that stretching is just as mental as it is muscular, and if you’re relaxed with your breath, then your muscles get the signal to also relax, so use your breath as the relaxation guide and your mind and body will follow.
