Grad school was rough on me. I was exercising (running actually!!) and eating great prior to school, then with all the BS and stress that school brought, I ended up gained 50lbs in the 3 years. I'm not even sure if this picture represents my highest weight (as I never ever ever weighed myself) but it is def when I got to 180+. Its amazing to see what a difference there is in just a face!  #workinprogess

I'm so excited to try my new @tropeaka protein powder. I'm usually pretty skeptical of protein powders, they always have sneaky ingredients and things I don't want to put in my body. I love the ingredients in here, as they are all basic, simple, and real. As I'm drinking it, it is slightly chalky, as all protein powders are. I'm super picky with my drinks, but this is a winner in my books!

Leg/Core day today.  The first pic is a 4 min walking warm up and the rest I ran at 5.5 and the last 3 min at 6.5.  Thats the longest I have ran without stopping.  Finished with almost 5 more miles of speed intervals.  Came home and mowed the entire yard.

If you know me I am a shy person, I get embarrassed easily, and actually struggle a lot with self confidence.

While I have started to care less and less about these things as I get older, the struggle is still there. 
What's amazing to me is that after just a few short weeks of belonging to this morning accountability workout group is that I feel like we all know each other. 
I have never met these women and yet, we laugh and joke with each other like old friends. We share stories both good and bad.  And most importantly we support each other.

This group of women came into my life because I said yes to joining my coach's challenge group and because I put my fears of talking to strangers aside and started joining in on the morning workouts!

I am so HAPPY! Happy I said yes. Happy I pushed my fears aside. Happy with the results. Happy with the accountability!

If you need help jump starting your fitness routine or help sticking to the one you have already started. I promise that these ladies can help you just as they helped me..we are a TEAM!

A little over 100 days ago I said yes. YES to becoming a better version of myself and no to quick fix diets. 
YES to making healthier choices and no to making myself feel  guilty for eating some of my favorite foods. 
YES to more self confidence and no to my inner mean girl telling me I couldn’t do it because I had so far to go. 
YES to making time for myself and no to thinking I wasn’t worth my own time!
I finally asked myself “what do I have to lose?” I said YES to a commitment to giving myself 30 minutes a day, and I have never been happier. I have gained a love for exercising, a meal plan that fits into my life (ya girl loves some tacos), and an amazing group that holds me accountable on my worst days. Most importantly I have gained confidence in myself. I wouldn’t not trade my decision for the world!

Vacation tomorrow so of course I'm sitting at 212.2 when my all time low as an adult has been 211 (which I hit when I found out I was pregnant with my second kid). I'm going to try to stick to burgers with no buns and sharing meals with my kids to keep my portions under control.

I'm also super excited to visit King's Island for the first time in  yeeeeears. I'm scared I won't fit on rides or something but I'm sure most of my day will be spent taking the kids on rides or to the pool anyways so hopefully I won't completely embarrass myself. I hope to post while on our trip so I'll talk to you all soon!

I’ve been slacking on my self love for the past two weeks. Too much enjoying myself through foods and drinks if that makes sense. Enjoying is not the issue - it’s the making it a habit through food and drinks that is.

I’ve had my share of rosé and beer , good foods- the ones that aren’t a part of my eating guidelines. .

I saw this on Facebook and realized I totally needed to see that today.  I am struggling with some emotional stuff today and wanting to control things.  I just need to sit back and relax.  Life will work itself out.  I messed up on some eating today but this moment right now is a fresh start. This morning’s workout was Back & Bis followed with some cardio and abs. I was able to up my weights on some of the exercises and I definitely felt the burn. We have vacations coming up soon so I’m trying to stick to my routine and eat as healthy as I can until then, because you can’t go camping without having s’mores and 🍹 right?

My kids are pure desi through and through and they love their Pakistani meals but occasionally I whip up some simple meals and they enjoy them nonetheless- like these garlic potatoes 🥔

You will need:
➕potatoes (I used red skinned)
➕salt
➕pepper
➕garlic powder
➕vegetable oil (or olive oil)
Method:
➕preheat oven to 425 degrees
➕slice up potatoes and lay flat into pre-greased baking sheet (it’s ok if they overlap a bit )
➕drizzle a little bit of oil on top of the potatoes then sprinkle the spices mentioned above
➕mix it all with your hands to get even coating 🙌🏻
➕even out the potatoes on the baking sheet ➕pop it into the oven and bake for 30 minutes

Everyone talks about having “balance” and living a “balanced” life but what does that really mean?
.
I struggled with this for years. I was so obsessed with exercise & eating perfect when i first started getting into fitness. I had ZERO balance.
.
I would exercise like crazy 6-7 days a week. Minimum of 60 minutes of running per day.
.
Would never eat anything “bad” because i was terrified of gaining weight.
.
People thought i was crazy.
.
I just thought it was what you had to do in order to stay fit and healthy.
.
But that was the farthest thing from healthy.
.
I had no social life, no energy, no muscle and constant worry about the scale going up.
.
That my friends is not healthy. In any way shape or form.
.
Your health should not be defined by a number on a scale. It should be defined by your relationship with your body, your friendships, your energy, and so much more.
.
If you would’ve told me 3 years ago that i would be working out (lifting) only 4x/week, going to weekly dinners out, having drinks on occasion and not obsessively tracking macros excessively or checking the scale i would have never believed you.
.
But it feels really FREAKING GOOD
.

Is has been a loooooong time since I posted a #transformationtuesday picture. As most of you know, I took a break from my #weightlossjourney back in a November when I lost my mom. Im more than thrilled to have found #orangetheoryfitness and the #fattuesdayfam because I’m no longer on a #weightloss journey but now a #fitness journey. Waking up and prioritizing my fitness everyday has allowed me to prioritize my health (mental and physical), my eating and my relationship with those around me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m still not as small as I once was but I’m wayyyyy #stronger and that is so much more important to me! So thank you to my best friend @chelsbeck13 for encouraging me to start and @andrewcolesmith For hours of content, a HUGE support group, a few workouts and eventually an amazing friendship! I would consider myself an official #fitnessperson now and I’ll continue to be for the rest of my life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What the heck is this Plantar Fasciitis you speak of⁉️ -

Your foot has thick, fibrous band of tissue (''fascia'') reaching from your heel to your toes. These tissues support the muscles and arch of the foot. When they’re overly stretched, tiny tears can occur in their surface. This can cause pain and inflammation- it can even lead to a bone spur‼️ -

Got it • What causes it⁉️ -

A number of things can contribute to plantar fasciitis. Being overweight, on your feet for several hours a day, or running a lot can play a factor.  A few other things that can increase your chance of getting it are: 
1. If you wear worn-out shoes with thin soles. 
2. If you have flat feet or a very high arch.
3. If you wear high-heeled shoes often.
4. If you have tight Achilles’ tendons or tight calves.
5. If you have an unusual walk or foot position (pronate/supinate too much). -

Okay... So how do I fix it⁉️ -

Plantar fasciitis can be caused by a number of things and should be addressed by a professional.  As a chiropractor, I see a lot of athletes who suffer from this.  I adjust what needs to be adjusted and address the soft tissues around it.  I do a lot of tests to find out YOUR cause. -

#transformationtuesday Rower Edition 🧡⁣

I had been plateauing for a few months and then actually gained a little holiday + stress weight before the picture on the left was taken in January. Below I listed the changes I made to get the results on the right that helped me shed 18 more lbs (-83lb total loss). ⁣
⁣
BUT I just want to reiterate that I’m not on a “diet”. I get asked about the diet I’m on more than any other question. Restricting and diets work for some people and I respect that, but for me it’s led to eating disorders in the past. It’s truly all about balance and moderation... which I know sounds cliché. 🤷🏼‍♀️ ⁣

I just want to keep it honest and real...⁣
⁣
• Upped my calorie intake. I believe I was actually eating fewer calories than my body wanted which was making it hold on to weight. 🤯 I used the TDEE calculation for this (which is a question I get frequently). But honestly, some days I don’t track anymore because I can intuitively eat now knowing what my body loves and responds well to. ⁣
• Participating in the @orangetheory Transformation Challenge from January to March helped me reevaluate my nutrition. It helped me become more honest with myself. Yes I eat more calories, but most of the calories I do eat come from fruit or vegetables or lean protein sources. ⁣
• Changing it up in the OTF studio. I used to be an avid treadmill starter. I would legit race to get to my favorite tread at @otfnwomaha 😂. But I started changing it up about mid March. When I’m taking a 3G class I love starting on the floor. And other days I’ll start on the rower. I believe this has benefitted me because I am able to lift heavy and burn my legs out before running on the treadmill. ⁣
• I reevaluate the weights I’m using quite frequently. If I’m not struggling during the last rep, I increase my weight selection.⁣

Something I’ve learned through it all is that this journey of becoming a “healthier me” is perpetual. I’ll always have some bad days, days where I struggle, some good days, and some days where I am and give my best. But the most important thing is to love myself through it all. 🙌🏼⁣
