It's time to get back on track

The other night I over indulged in foods that I know I shouldn't be eating ( instant regrets), but today I managed to resume with my diet and nutrition. 
I know that I've fallen off the edge ,( sort of speak) but I am willingly returning back to healthy eating, heavy lifting, and taking care of my body and mind🙇 .

Even if you stray from your path, you can always start where you left off. .

Mushrooms - you either love them or hate them. I love them! Especially a big ole stuffed mushroom. Tonight I made homemade chicken meatballs with a dairy free mushroom sauce. I got @traderjoes Multipurpose Umami Seasoning Blend and finally put it to use! .

Don’t mind my sweaty post-full-body-strength-day face, but I just wanted to share about how happy I left the gym today!! I’ve encountered a lot of selfish bros at the gym who hog equipment that they’re not even using and respond really rudely when I ask if they would mind sharing something while they’re doing other parts of their circuits. Well today all I had left to do was 4 sets on the chest press machine and this guy and I walked up to the machine at the same time. We both looked over at the second one where a dude was sitting on his phone, and we both knew there was no way he was going to get up soon. I was like “nbd, you can do first, I’ll wait!” and instead he insisted that we could share and alternate! He even set my weights for me each set and gave me encouraging words when he could tell I was a little embarrassed that I was lifting 1/3 of what he was 😊That’s the first time that someone has been that nice to me during a workout and it gives me so much hope that not everyone sucks! 😄😂🙌🏻

Who is guilty of overthinking their food choices? Lately I have spoken to many people who either overthink what they are going to eat so much so that in the end they just don’t eat. Or they just grab the quickest option, and that doesn’t always serve their body or mind. .

According to the the World Health Organization and the European Food Safety Authority, we should get at least 1/2 of a 1% of our calories from the essential omega-3 fat ALA. This is equivalent of having just ONE TABLESPOON a day of chia seeds or ground flaxseeds. Literally, it’s THAT EASY. However, supplements of omega-3s may be important for preserving brain function and structure (1).

So, how much should we supplement? One study(2) found what appears to be a threshold value around an omega-3 index of 4.4. Nearly two-thirds of vegans may fall below this threshold which is associated with accelerated brain aging. HOWEVER, the omnivores did just as bad. They took those eating vegan with levels under 4, gave them algae-derived EPA and DHA supplement, and about 250mg a day took them from an average of 3.1 to 4.8 within four months.

But what about Fish Oil supplements??? Fish Oil has good amounts of DHA and EPA, but, our oceans have become so polluted that seafood may also contain various pollutants, which can negatively affect human health. Researchers recently looked at 13 over-the-counter children’s dietary supplements containing fish oil. PCBs were detected in ALL products. They also found NO significant difference in PCB levels between the supplements labeled as molecularly distilled or how high up the food chain the fish were (3).

Nutrition experts and various doctors now recommend everyone take 250mg of microalgae-based. Algae oil is free of toxic contaminants, because it never comes in contact with anything from the ocean. All the benefits, none of the risks. The long-chain omega 3s, the “DHA” in golden algae, found to be 100% bioequivalent(4) to the DHA in fish flesh; organic, hygienic, sustainable, bloodless, & bioequivalent

BBQ Jackfruit is so simple and requires only a few ingredients!  Two (20-ounce) cans green jackfruit in water, 1 1/2 cups BBQ sauce (I use Bone Suckin’ Sauce), and onions and peppers.  Place everything into a crockpot for 4-5 hours and using using a fork or potato masher, pull apart the fruit and stir thoroughly.  Serve on a whole wheat bun with coleslaw!! 😋🌱👍 swipe right for more pics:)

Can you love and accept your body and still want to work on aesthetic goals?  UMMMM of course you can! Actually we are allowed to do whatever the fuck we want with our bodies! Wanna see what you'd look like with thicker thighs? Cool, leggo! Wanna lose a bit of bodyfat? Okay bb, your body your choice! Love how you are now and don't wanna change a thing? I LOVE THAT FOR YOU! I'm currently working towards getting stronger arms by just fucking up my weight training routine a lil. I'm body positive as hell, but I also love applying science to modify aspects of my physique because I think it's interesting and super fun! If genetics don't allow for certain results.. whatever, kinda cool to know!

Your life won't magically change once you obtain aesthetic goals (if that's your jam). That's why your relationship with yourself is always the most important thing. Often when we react negatively to someone or something, especially with a partner, we don’t pause to reflect on what triggered us. It may take a lot of introspection and honesty to identify our triggers, and sometimes we may even notice thought patterns that trigger the same reactions. Most of the time there is a more vulnerable emotion under the reactive one, and we commonly fail to show it, which in the long run creates communication problems. 
A helpful way to identify our triggers may be to ask ourselves, “If my ___ (insert reactive emotion) could speak right now, what would it say?”. Perhaps you’ll come to find that there is sadness under your anger because you felt excluded, or not important, forgotten, etc. 
Brené Brown offers a helpful way to communicate these triggers and vulnerable emotions that I absolutely loved. She tells a story about her and her husband about a time when she felt ignored and like her husband wasn’t showing interest in her, and before letting these triggers get to her, she approached him and said, “the story I’m telling myself is ____ (insert trigger)”. When you share this with the other person, most of the time you might be surprised to hear that the story you told yourself had nothing to do with what the person was actually thinking or intended. 
This improves open communication, without jumping to conclusions, assuming or pointing fingers, and even though it’s extremely useful with couples, it can also be done with other people, and identifying our triggers is an extremely important step in getting to know ourselves and each other better. ❤️
