Looking back on my life, I see that the counseling profession called me. When I was very young I would dream of owning my own orphanage (during those days you heard a lot about orphanages) and helping all the little children that had lost their parents. As I continued to grow I would read sad life stories, write tragic stories, and always felt inspired if I found someone who had faced much difficulty and had overcome it in their life. .

When I headed to college I was determined that nursing was the way I could ease my need to help others in a profession, but I soon changed my major to Psychology and never looked back. I fell in love with the brain! I used my time volunteering at psych hospitals during my Junior and Senior years.  When I graduated from college, I went to work at a Psych Hospital here in Phoenix. The work was difficult but I was successful at the hospital and received employee of the quarter several times in the three years I worked there for my ability to innovate new programs for the kids. .

I stopped working at the hospital when I delivered my first set of twins at 26 years old. By 30, I delivered triplets and although I lost one of my darling boys at birth I left the hospital with two fragile babies. I spent years with my four babies learning to be a mom. I dealt with depression during the years as I adjusted to one of my son’s diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy.  I felt isolated and alone with my pain even though I wasn’t. I should have sought out counseling for myself but I had no idea where to go and I didn’t feel “bad enough” to pay for counseling. .

Once my first set of twins headed to college I went back to school to get my Master’s in Counseling. My personal growth was at the point where I was very absorbent of new knowledge and I was at the place where I could fully surrender to the field. I started in community mental health and added more trainings to my knowledge. This year I decided I wanted to create a private practice that felt like a spa and made you feel healthy for getting help. I wanted to create someplace fresh and inspiring to work on yourself. I love Mind Helm and want it to be a place of growth and inspiration for many!

Every day I carry a water bottle around with me hoping to drink over 100ml a day, and even then I forget... which is ok, I use to totally get down on myself when I forgot my little routines or acts of self-care. But now, I simply to say myself, "You've got this, you drank x amount, good job, tomorrow is an opportunity to love yourself more." :)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The words we use create the life we live. Life is so much better when the words I use are gentle and forgiving. This is a direct result of living in my Yoga Nidra practice and carrying for the five bodies that encompass my soul. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Do you do state of being check ins? 
This is one of my favorite practices, especially when I’m noticing I’m feeling a bit “off” my axis or out of my flow zone. Creating awareness around our state of being can help us to reclaim our power & reground in our wellbeing...instead of continuing to pass our power away to things that cause stress, dis-ease, anxiety, overwhelm, & energy depletion. It’s funny because pretty much any time I notice my state of being is out of alignment- it’s because I stopped prioritizing play, pleasure, creativity, & expression! Anyone else notice that?! .
.
Here’s how you can do a quick state of being check in—take pen to paper & ask yourself the following questions: .
.
-how am I feeling right now?
-what am I thinking right now?
-what cycle am I in right now?
-where am I acting from?
.
.
Some important things to remind yourself when doing a state of being check in:
.
.
-other people’s “stuff” is not your stuff to carry. -other people’s happiness is not your responsibility. -other people’s wants don’t matter more than your own wants. -you can be compassionate, caring, & supportive toward others-& still not sacrifice your own wellbeing. -do what you can, when you can, with what you can. Only one thing can exist at a time in the present.

Some things that help settle your state of being & bring you back into vibrational alignment:
-grounding
-breath work -a daily alignment practice
-creativity & expressive outlets
-getting back in your body w/ body movement -nature -self soothing & remothering -releasing expectations & the need for external validation

I was afraid of being seen starting from the bottom. It took me a year to change my self-talk from discouragement to encouragement and compassion. Then I started sharing my passion for yoga. It took another six months to break through my insecurities and fears to finally enjoy and trust the process. Trust that you are where you need to be. There is nowhere else but the present. No one can say or know what is in store for you in ten years. Have faith in the process and the progress and keep reaching higher. Lift your chin and chase your dreams!

Since I stopped regularly shaving, I have had a pretty significant number of women open up to talk about their relationship with hair removal. A lot of the time there seems to be a heavy feeling of shame connected with those conversations. •

Some women are ashamed that they shave, others are ashamed when they forget to, or decide not to, shave. •
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE ASHAMED ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF HAIR ON YOUR BODY.

If you don't want to shave because it's annoying or uncomfortable or you just don't want to, don't shave. If you love the feeling of shaved legs and you couldn't imagine not shaving, then shave. If you're like me and go through phases of hairlessness and a full body bush, then do your thing. •

My point is this: if you wanna shave, shave; if you wanna grow it, do so. It's your body. You have to live there--no one else does--so do what makes you happy, comfortable, and confident. •

I saw this quote and laughed out loud.😂 In all honesty, if someone tells me to calm down when I’m upset, they may get a punch to the throat. I used to get this a lot because I have a loud voice so if I say something louder than normal, people think I’m upset. I’m just excitable. 😉 But yeah, it’s probably best to not tell people to calm down when they are clearly upset or angry. It invalidates their feelings and seems condescending, at least to me. And you know, the throat punch won’t feel so good either. 👊🏼😟 #ThursdayThoughts

Do you do state of being check ins? 
This is one of my favorite practices, especially when I’m noticing I’m feeling a bit “off” my axis or out of my flow zone. Creating awareness around our state of being can help us to reclaim our power & reground in our wellbeing...instead of continuing to pass our power away to things that cause stress, dis-ease, anxiety, overwhelm, & energy depletion. It’s funny because pretty much any time I notice my state of being is out of alignment- it’s because I stopped prioritizing play, pleasure, creativity, & expression! Anyone else notice that?! .
.
Here’s how you can do a quick state of being check in—take pen to paper & ask yourself the following questions: .
.
-how am I feeling right now?
-what am I thinking right now?
-what cycle am I in right now?
-where am I acting from?
.
.
Some important things to remind yourself when doing a state of being check in:
.
.
-other people’s “stuff” is not your stuff to carry. -other people’s happiness is not your responsibility. -other people’s wants don’t matter more than your own wants. -you can be compassionate, caring, & supportive toward others-& still not sacrifice your own wellbeing. -do what you can, when you can, with what you can. Only one thing can exist at a time in the present.

.
Some things that help settle your state of being & bring you back into vibrational alignment:
-grounding
-breath work -a daily alignment practice
-creativity & expressive outlets

As a Libra I’m a firm believer in trying for balance in all things and I must say I’m grateful I married a guy who is as goofy and grounded as I am brooding and in the clouds

We get a lot of comments on how our love is goals and how people hope to have one day have what we have.

My advice to them: First learn to love your own company. Not just be kinda ok with being alone but make your relationship with yourself so amazing that you crave and cherish getting a few minutes or hours or even days completely to yourself. Learn about your wishes, desires, fears, and what makes you tick with the same enthusiasm that you would for the person you’re interested in pursuing a relationship with

Next: when you find that other person, choose them. Love really isn’t like this magical fairytale concept that happens to you, it’s something you build and create. Jordan and I work because everyday we truly choose to love each other and be the best we can be for each other AND for ourselves. He supports my yoga career and encourages me to follow and nurture my passions. I also think he doesn’t hate that one of those is cooking 😝. I support his naval career and have chosen to follow him wherever the navy tells us we have to go. It requires us to choose to sacrifice certain personal desires and goals in order to achieve a greater long term goal  of growing old together.

Our 2 year wedding anniversary is this month. And I wouldn’t change this life for anything

And know that if this isn’t something you want, that you want to be 100% independent and not tied down by anyone or anything.... THAT IS OK

And if having a happy marriage with kids is all you’ve ever wanted THAT IS ALSO OK
