But the combination of sugar and fibre consumed via a whole food (in this case fruit) makes it more likely to satisfy one’s hunger more than food comprising of sugar and minimal fibre. However, one’s attainment of satiety will differ from another’s. -

Fruit is a more nutritious, calorie sparse source of energy than confectionary. But it is important to realise that caloric values of any food count towards overall energy balance. My calories are so low each day. This, along with 1 to 1.5 hours of exercise 7 days a week, develops a certain mental grit in oneself. Weight loss is not for everyone - you have to be willing to uproot your whole life and tough it out every single day. You will make sacrifices and be uncomfortable. When you create a calorie deficit, your body turns to your fat stores to function properly. It's not easy. But be determined, suck it up and refuse to quit.

This study compared two different protein intakes during a dieting phase to see what the impact was on body composition.

Weight loss was similar between conditions but the higher protein intake showed more fat loss and a simultaneous increase in lean body mass.

This shows;
- Yes, you can build muscle in a deficit
- Yes, higher protein intakes can result in better fat loss (despite weight loss being similar)

Note; I am not using this study as evidence that people should consume 2.4g/kg/day worth of protein, it is simply examining two different doses to see what the impact was. It is possible that the same results could have been achieved without such a large dose (1.2g/kg/day is possibly a bit on the low side). Practical take homes for weight loss;
- Calorie deficit is most important
- Hitting your protein goal can help lean body mass retention (or gain, if you are new to training)
- Carb to fat ratios appear to make pretty much fuck all difference in terms of fat loss so pick whichever carb to fat ratio you perform well on and can adhere to

People often talk about weight loss and fat loss as if they're the same thing.⁣

Let's explain this with an example. ⁣

We have 2 identical twins, called Larry and Barry. Both are overweight and weigh 90 kilos.⁣
⁣
Larry decides he's going to lose weight by cutting his calories and doing lots of cardio and over the course of a year, he loses 15kg!⁣
⁣
However, when Larry reaches his goal weight of 75kg, he still can't work out why he's still got some belly fat left.⁣
⁣
Barry, takes a different approach. Rather than doing cardio, he focusses on weight training and getting stronger in the gym. Barry also makes sure to eat enough protein to optimise muscle growth and recovery, whilst also making sure he is in a calorie deficit.⁣
⁣
The end result is that even though Barry and Larry have lost exactly the same amount of weight, Barry looks much leaner and more muscular than Larry!⁣
⁣
This is because Barry GAINED muscle, whilst losing fat. So even though he only dropped 15kg in body WEIGHT, he dropped 19kg of FAT! ⁣
⁣
Larry on the other hand actually lost some muscle mass, because he didn't lift weights or eat enough protein :( ⁣
⁣
That means only 12kg of the 15 kg he lost was fat.⁣
So, if you're thinking you need to 'focus on cardio to lose the weight first' and then later on intend to start weight training later on.. you're doing it wrong! ⁣

I have struggled to regain control and follow WW for about a year now. I’ve tried SW and gone back to WW and it just isn’t working. Now I’m not saying by any means that WW or SW don’t work. The plans clearly do but for me I’m finding that my mindset when on them is restricting me and I just can’t adjust to them like I did when I first joined WW. I don’t know why. So I’ve made a decision to leave WW and start calorie counting. I was reading an article last week and I don’t know why but something just clicked. Calories in vs Calories out. Nothings off limits, and I’m actually amazed at what I can eat for 1200 calories per day. It’s making me look at food differently and making me think about what I’m consuming. Now I’ve joined a gym it also fits in perfectly with excercise too.  1200 calories per day should give me a 1-2lb loss per week. So slower I guess than WW for me but you know what I’m happy with that. I’m actually not weighing myself at the minute. I’m going to do that in a couple of months time and see how I’ve progressed with it all! For me the weekly weighing was changing my mood. If I’d gained a pound I’d go into self destruct mode, so I think I’m better off not worrying about the number on the scale! Anyway I’ve rambled on but I’ll post my food and let you know how I get on with it all!! Wish me luck! 
Breakfast today was 2 x @weetabixofficial with 100ml semi skimmed milk. 183 calories.

So this morning I was woken up early but the O H snoring and snorting (he has man flu) so it wasn't planned but i thought I'd get up and go for a run...i didn't go far and i wasn't out long but i burnt some calories , gained some steps and most importantly , felt good ...i defo prefer running in the mornings (when it's not raining) once I'm out there , still got to get used actually getting out of bed , but once I'm out there , i love it , starts the day off perfectly 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️#running #morning #caloriesburned #gettinginthemsteps #healthylifestyle #healthyhabits #caloriecounting #caloriedeficit #consistency #dontgiveup #summerbodyinthemaking

If I can be perfectly honest here, there are a TON of different formulas out there to calculate the “perfect" calorie deficit for you.

The thing is, there is no one-size-fits-all formula that is absolutely guaranteed to work.

All of these formulas, including the one I have posted, is nothing more than a starting off point. So how then, will you know if it’s actually working?

Probably not the answer you want to hear, but it's trial and error. That’s how you will know.

➡️By sticking with it for more than a few days or a week or two. The problem is people give up too easily. The second things get tough, you want to quit and say “it’s not working”, when if you stuck it out a little longer, it very well may start to work. One week is just not enough. 30 days or more is a much better time assessment.

But during that 30 days you need to hit your nutrition consistently. At least  80% of the time, you are hitting your calorie and protein goals. Put in the work and do it for 30 days,

➡️Keep tabs on your progress all along the way: the scale is only one way to measure progress, and ideally, you want to look at that trend over time - month to month as opposed to day to day.

Listening to what your body craves with the right environment cues is a fundamental signal which should not be overlooked or down-regulated as this will govern adherence / relationship with food + mental health.
Yet, in our modern culture/environment our beliefs and biochemical pathways may get disrupted / down-regulated from various factors like media propaganda, light exposure, Sleep, exercise, microbiome, artificial sugars. All of which is still being researched with no definitive answer yet! However, there are some clear associations out there!

My partner craved something less heavy and more carb focused with less calories than me.
I craved something nutrient and calorie dense.
But broken down they are the same foods but adapted to suit our needs and cravings!
There is not right or wrong. This is just highlighting the different approaches. There will be women who eat more than guys and that’s normal. No right or wrong, do you.

I don’t even know what’s happening anymore lmao. I started in january 2018 at 246.8 pounds. the scale doesn’t matter and we shouldn’t put so much pressure on it, but I will say that I’ve never seen 120 anything before in my life so it felt worth documenting. and the fact that I was able to get here being HAPPY AND HEALTHY and living my best fucking life restriction free is mind blowing. I don’t know what the future holds for me, but I do know that I can do absolutely anything I want to in life with determination and a whole lotta cool socks 🤠 (fun fact the hulk is my favorite because 1. he’s always angry and I feel that and 2. we both SMASH💚)

Not losing weight like you’d want to? 🤔Chances are you aren’t eating enough. Yup, that’s right. Not eating enough. It is essential to eat enough calories! If you don't, it will destroy your metabolism. When your body is in starvation mode, your metabolism will shut down. Not eating enough calories will force your  body to use muscle and hold on to fat. ••
I am currently trying to take in 2000+ calories a day (with specific macros) and yet I am still lean - abs are poking out. Don’t be afraid to eat!!!! 🥦🍕🥗🍎🧁

Also, please don’t use the calories MyFitnessPal gives you. While it’s a great tool for tracking food, the calories and macros it assigns to you are usually absurdly low. There are better calorie/macros calculators online that will provide more accurate results & won’t have you eating less than 1500 calories 🙌🏼
