The reformer's set-up for eccentric contraction is one of the keys to achieving the long, strong muscles without bulk for which Pilates is known.⠀

Pushing and pulling with legs or arms against the resistance of the springs, carriage, and body weight is generally strength building. The exercises provide enough resistance and movement variety to help build strong bones. And there is a special feature—eccentric muscle contractions. This is when a muscle lengthens as it resists a force.⠀

The instability of a rolling carriage with the springs set at different levels of resistance provides all kinds of stability challenges that develop core strength and promote better balance. For example, having less of the body on the carriage is one of the ways Pilates exercises get harder. It means more body weight has to be supported by the practitioner, and the body and machine have to be controlled even more from the core. ⠀

So, when the springs are on a lighter setting, some exercises are more challenging for the core because it has to work harder to control and stabilize the movement. ⠀

The Pilates Reformer is an exercise machine used to incorporate the Pilates exercise technique for a challenging and intense workout. The reformer is comprised of Springs, a footbar, pull straps, and a moving carriage. The springs and a person’s body weight are used as resistance to pull or push the carriage while performing movements targeting specific muscle groups. The Pilates reformer helps open the door for hundreds of strengthening and stretching exercises.

1. Low Impact – You are “jumping” while lying down. The low impact exercise gives you the aerobic benefit of a rebounder while protecting your knees and back from the jarring impact of landing.⠀
⠀
2. Abs – Yes! Using the jumpboard is a great abdominal workout. Your abdominals need to work overtime on a light spring setting.⠀

3. Calorie Burn – This is a class where you will feel the burn. As always, you can control the intensity by modifying where needed! ⠀

4. Exercise While Lying Down – Who would have thought those 2 could go together!? The non-weight bearing method is excellent for those who have knee and ankle issues.⠀

“Pilates & Yoga at Plank, for me, has never been something I dread going to like other workout programs I've done. I dread when my schedule doesn't allow me to go as often as I'd like. ⠀

I take mat and equipment classes at Plank Pilates Studio because I've never found a group of instructors who are more conscious about correct form and who encourage their students to listen to their own limitations. In many other workout regimens, the instructors either compete themselves or encourage competition amongst the students to do the most reps or lift the heaviest weights. At Plank, the instructors encourage you to do what you can, push through the uncomfortable moments, and stop if there's pain. ⠀

Pilates has transformed my body; my legs are lean which I never thought I'd see, my core is strong and has saved me from frequenting a chiropractor, and I'm finally seeing the toning/definition I've always strived for. I'm healthy and so thankful for every instructor who has made me feel welcome as a student and as a friend. ⠀

I feel other "non-plankstas" look at me as a Krazy Kool-Aid drinker. I can see the concern in their eyes that maybe I've joined a cult. Sometimes I feel that way myself. But I've also never felt stronger physically. Mentally, I crave it because of the control and concentration it takes to succeed in class. I honestly think pilates has sharpened my focus on every aspect of life. ⠀

I can't say enough good things about Plank. The only negative is that I didn't find it sooner!”

The exercises that make up the sessions of the Pilates method, favor the opening of the joints and correct our usual position considerably. Due to this, we will achieve a full body alignment and a greater stretch. ⠀

𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵, 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻⠀
The exercises allow to better understand the body and its muscular system, along with it, it will increase strength, balance and coordination; granting looseness and grace to our movements.⠀
