3) Include variations of hand positions!
4) 2-4 second negatives!
5) use BFR 1x per week!

5 Weeks Out last year 👉🏼 VS. ~15/16 Weeks Out this year.

I feel like I left myself at a good starting point for the shows I want to do this year. I gave myself plenty of time to chip away at the fat and come in much tighter than my last comp.

It makes me excited for what’s to come in the coming weeks.

Progress photos and videos are so crucial for tracking progress. Just when you get discouraged you can look to see how far you’ve come.

I’m in a much better place and I am finally starting to feel like I’m in prep again!

Everything felt really, really good today. Belted pause front squats moved extremely well, and my deficit deadlifts seemed to come alive as well. Worked up to 365 for my final single. Probably had a little more in the tank, but I just left it at that. It was a long enough workout as it was.

My goal was just to be able to fall asleep in my bed not worrying about dying in my sleep. I got to a point where I had to sleep on a recliner because laying on my back flat would make me gasp for air. DEATH will wake your ass up and make you work for your life.

So, this is me lately. Completely unfiltered. This is how I am most days when I come home from work or the days I work from home. My hair color is also starting to fade 😭 #sadday

In the past two years, I've been dealing with quite a bit. Between my personal issues, trying to balance work with my personal goals, taking care of myself, and caring for my place and my fur baby Scout, I've been feeling burned out. Long story short - just got the candle burning at both ends. 
To try and keep myself accountable, I'm putting everything I need to do out in the open for everyone here to see, and you can chime in with your goals if you'd like as well (not mandatory). So here goes.

1. I need to take time for me. I used to be consistent with going to the gym, even for 30 minutes, just to get alone time and a quick workout in to let out some steam, and it will help me feel better. I also need to remember that part of me time is all the little things that go into taking care of myself like eating balanced meals, keeping up with self care, trying to dress up (sometimes I try to: if I dress up it might cheer me up since I look nice), etc.

2. Spend time with Scout every day. I try as best as I can to be with him when I have free time, but when I work from home or when I get ready for work in the mornings, we don't get to play much or go for walks, so I'd like to make time for that so he can let some energy out and get better trained on a leash.

3. Be social, but remember your boundaries. I'd like to make time for my friends, but naturally I'm introverted so there will be times when I need my space. I haven't been around much for my friends, and I'm hoping with this goal in place I can be more active in my circles of friends.

4. Balance my "adult" responsibilities at home. This is something I need to work on with my partner in crime, but that's between me and him. 
5. Chase my dreams. I still have my dream of going to grad school I want to accomplish. I still want to travel. Getting back on stage in the NPC Illinois circuit is still in the back of my mind. I will strategize and work hard with my head down, fully focused.

Big tip: If you find yourself getting “cold” or losing your pump between sets... 1. Try holding a flex pose for 10 seconds after every set ((you can do it subtly while standing if you don’t want people judging you, but if you don’t care what people think then bless your soul))
2. Try doing a body weight exercise for 10 reps where you can flex TF outta your target muscle 
3. Try opening your bag really quickly and putting your phone away (my personal favorite) -

I literally could have listed a million reasons to not work out today
- I’m tired - Gunnar didn’t sleep good last night - I had training all day which is so draining
- I already missed Monday - I wanted to do morning workouts and it’s night time
But then I thought about why I SHOULD work out + I already missed Monday, don’t get farther behind
+ Working out tonight will motivate me to wake up tomorrow and do it + My new shoes came in today
+ I’ve been tired cuz I’m out of my routine
+ I was in a training all day(week) and didn’t move as much as normal

Once I made my MIND up it was so easy to do it. And it felt so good to sweat. I feel like I’m starting phase 2 off with a good start and I’m determined to be done with it in 4 weeks!

Survive - it's the most natural thing we do. We were born with an instinct to try to survive. We are born fighters, but that natural desire to survive creates a conflict. What's the problem? I'm getting deep today!

The desire to survive keeps us at a mediocre level of living. It eats away at our conviction until we find it too easy to compromise and next to impossible to confront. The result of this survival mentality stagnation—maybe not death, but not exactly life, either.

If our number-one goal is to survive, we’re no longer free to make the best decision. You see this often in business. We make decisions that are acceptable instead of making decisions that are right and with integrity. We take a poll as to what satisfies the people rather than what we know in our hearts is really right.

Also, if we desire to survive, we are encouraged to excuse our lack of effectiveness. I talk a lot about being faithful to yourself; I talk very little about being fruitful. A fruitful person has to die first, so since most of us haven’t died, we would rather talk about faithfulness. We may not really accomplish much, but at least we’re consistent.

There’s something common to all people who try to survive: They lose what they try to keep. Whatever the survivor holds tightest he/she loses. It’s a paradox. Sometimes we think that the people who have the most are the ones who hold on to it the tightest. If you’re a survival seeker, it’s because of your mindset, not your position or your possessions. Anybody can adopt this philosophy of life.

How will you be able to cope with the pressures of life? How will you be able to have patience with those you come across? How will you be able to withdraw from all these pressures? Here’s how: you don't just survive. Instead, you relinquish your fears, doubts, and insecurities. You pass your trust and give it away. The first step in becoming of no reputation is coming to the clear understanding that everything you are and everything you can ever hope to be can only be due to the power and grace of a higher being. Could it be that you need a mission bigger than yourself, a purpose beyond your limited vision?

#ad CS Lewis once said that “you can’t go back and change the beginning but you can start where you are and changing the ending.” I’d have to agree.  To be honest, oftentimes I find myself looking back at all the exercise and eating habits I used to follow with regret. But what I’ve come to realize is that I didn’t quite know what I know today. 🙌So just a quick message on this Tuesday that it’s never too late to change your ways.  What you do today may just change your life.  All you need to do is to take it a step at a time... AND START TODAY.💗
