I haven't posted anything this month because I've been stretched thin with multiple commitments - work, job search and networking, a part-time course, getting sick way too many times, seeing friends and dates, exercise at least a bit, taxes, usual adulting stuff - the list seems endless.

As I take a couple hours today to pause and just be, I want to acknowledge all the milestones I didn't really celebrate this past week - my fourth PhD defense anniversary, first anniversary in a non-research job, and completing and doing well in a part time Python course at UofT. Often, we get so caught up in the flurry of all that needs to be done and anxiety and overwhelm, that we don't take the time to pause and breathe and reflect on how far we've come.

Sharing this picture as a reminder to find some calm in the midst of turmoil. I felt very overwhelmed on this day and started to feel sick when I was at Allan Gardens Conservatory. Even then, I spent a few minutes watching the turtles (they are living) and this was my favorite spot at the conservatory. Hope you're able to find a few minutes to pause each day. 💜

Thought I would “kill a few birds with one stone “ this morning. (Not literally )

Walk the dog up the forest,get some exercise,fresh air and clear the head before heading to the gym for a heavy weight session 🏋️‍♂️ I found this little nugget on podcast this morning- Guided walking meditation so gave it a whirl .. Highly recommend giving it a go 👌🏽 Especially for those of you who find it hard to sit still in a quiet room.

We are constantly trying to change the world outside of us when all we need to do is to change the world inside of us. The world outside of us will always do what it wants (people, weather, financial markets, etc.) while we have 100% control over the world inside of us, how we feel and how we perceive the outside world. It took me about six attempts to get the rocks to balance. Nice little 10 minute relaxation exercise...watching the final stone collapse the tower again and again,  starting all over, staying focused, with no space for any other thoughts. I am cherishing the balance I have come to embody in my life now. To be honest I have had it all, the both sides of life truly, a very wide spectrum of life at my almost 42 years of age. Not to be a Debbie downer or anything but I’m all about jumping aboard the realistic mom train, and since Amadeo has been born I’m not a fan of family holidays!!!! ⁣
They are soooo much work, the timings are always right at nap or bed time and since both our families are divorced it means we jam pack all these events back to back the whole weekend. ⁣

I’m usually at a boarder line of insanity, and I work reeaaaallly hard at keeping my mental health in check but my biggest triggers are no down time and lack of sleep. Over the last few weeks I’ve had horrible lack of sleep which keeps piling on so this Easter holiday didn’t exactly come at a great time for my mental health. ⁣

This means arguments, resentment and honestly me feeling like the biggest bitch in the world, but when your child is over tired, over stimulated, won’t go down easily and waking up multiple times in the night screaming, fuck I’m hear to say I can’t fuckin wait for this child to be older and these events not effect him as much. Until then I’m over here reallllly disliking holidays, and since putting it out there to you amazing mamas I know I’m far from being alone on this one! ⁣

Funny story 😂 Mommy has a younger brother and she said when they were little, she would tell him gore stories of how meat was produced 🤯 and then ate all his share of momos (dumplings) for years while she turned him into a vegetarian 😂 #momolover

Last week was crazy because I had been at a dance competition Thursday to Sunday so meal prep didn’t happen and although I only started doing it in January, not having it done, added a level of stress to my that I didn’t enjoy.  Not sure why I didn’t start doing meal prepping sooner, Life changer!
So although it is Easter today, prep is happening because I don’t want another week of stressing over what’s for dinner.  Prep this week is pretty simple, Sheldon is traveling for work and with Easter it is a short week so I prepared only two meals that can be used a few times and a couple “extras”.

This week I decided to make my own cold brewed peach 🍑 ice tea.  I didn’t use one recipe but combined a few things I read.  I did a slow steep with 5 @preschoice ginger peach tea bags.  I put them in cold water with peach slices, orange peel and 100% pure maple syrup.  No added refined sugar 👏🏻. It is light and refreshing!

My other extra is double chocolate zucchini muffins from @yumandyummer .  I ate one fresh from the oven and it was delicious 😋 it was my Easter chocolate at breakfast time 🐇.

My two meals are white chilli with chicken done in the slow cooker.  It is still cooking but smells amazing!  Check out the recipe on @pinterest https://pin.it/k7yxtrhtjaw6ja .

Second meal is a vegetarian burger.  I have tried other ones before and they fell apart on me but I was able to get these ones cooked in one piece. One night I will make sweet potato fries to go with the veggie burger and the second time I will have the patty on top of a salad.

Went and sat at my favourite spot this afternoon ☀️🥰 It was so peaceful and despite just hearing a little traffic in the background, it was just the birds singing and the odd rustle of the leaves from any breeze. This is my spot to be present, to feel grounded, to be with nature and to just BE 🙏🏼

Fear is our SOS signal for safety, the communication of the brain allowing us to stay safe and comfortable☀️ Every new thing is definitely not safe or comfortable for the brain, so, no surprise we get shitloads of fear then we want to experience something new🧚‍♀️ Everytime I am afraid, I say this phrase to myself: “Fear is a poor excuse for not doing the work. We are all afraid. It is nothing new. If you are alive, you are fearful.” .

Happy Easter and long weekend! Hopefully you are making time for yourself to rest and do some self care. But if you are not, and are a busy busy bee spending time with friends and family or running errands, remember to infuse a grounding practice into your day. 🖤Everytime we go to the city I get a little disgruntled and anxious as we fill our day with lots of stops and are in high traffic areas. Here are some tips to help calm the nervous system when life feels hectic: 🖤When surrounded by a lot of people, like in a shopping center, street or festival we can feel very overwhelmed. Part of the reason for this is we are feeling and within everyone's energy. That means everyone who may be having a hard day, or going through a tough time, everyone who is anxious or also running around. We get to feel this energy and when layered upon others it can be overwhelming. There is also lots of great energy in the mix, but most people are carrying a reservoir of negative energy around with them. 🖤In these times I take a deep breath and remember we are all one. And I send love to everyone. Even a simple thought or intention works. It can be "I wish health and happiness to everyone here, I hope they have a good day." Suddenly you are shifting everyone's energy, and you are not taking on pain, you are inviting love. You can also visualize a white light coming from the sky and beaming down towards everyone, helping to support everyone and find a space of balance, including you in that visualization. Ultra powerful! 🖤If you are feeling exhausted with all of the things you are doing, even if they are pleasant things, sometimes it's just too much for our bodies and minds. Again take a deep breath. Become super present. Let go of what you did earlier and what you are doing later. Be right here. Be aware that in this moment you are taking a deep breath and giving your mind and body a moment to chill. A time to relax. Even for just a moment, sometimes that's all we need.
