The Southern Milky Way, featuring the Coal Sack Nebula! The Coal Sack Nebula, along with the other dark regions in this image, is what's known as a dark nebula. It consists of molecular gas that absorbs light. It's located 590 lightyears from us, and is easy to pick out from the much brighter light of the Milky Way if you're far enough south to see it.
Also making an appearance is our nearest neighbor star Alpha Centauri (the topmost of the two bright stars in the top center), the massive globular cluster Omega Centauri (the bright star-like object on the top right), the Southern Cross constellation just to the right of the Coal Sack, and several other dark and bright nebula regions and open clusters of stars.

I’ve always been fascinated by space. Outer space, deep space, negative space. It has always been interesting to me what can be found in seemingly empty space. Our mortal naked eye cannot see or fathom that there could be anything there. But when we have the help of a lens in the form of a microscope, magnifying glass, binoculars, or telescope that space explodes with life. These tiny or far away details are beautiful, fascinating, destructive, and terrifying. And yet, if we are always focused on such little things or far away things, we become overwhelmed and eventually stop seeing the bigger picture. When we put down the lens, suddenly the necessary and important things come back into focus. The negative space accents the important. Deep space accents the beautiful starlight that reaches earth. And outer space allows the beauty and necessary light and gravity of the sun and moon to govern the physical plane of our planet. So, sometimes I have to ask myself (particularly when I feel overwhelmed or anxious or depressed) am I viewing my life through a lens? Because the big picture is often less terrifying than just a fragment. ————————————————-
Shot with canon rebel t3i / 20mm / 20 second exposure / iso 3200

Boeing CST-100 Starliner.

This is the main competition for the SpaceX crew dragon capsule. However competition is a very good thing at this point. This means that there are more options to get astronauts up to low Earth orbit from American soil.

As access to space grows we will need more than one space craft to get us there. Even now having options is important. If one is grounded for safety concerns, we still have a launch option.

So many people focus on SpaceX is better or Boeing or Blue Origin. But competition is best for human spaceflight.

Shadowed Moon and Mountain (2019 Jul 18)
https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap190718.html

Explanation: On July 16 the Moon celebrated the 50th anniversary of the launch of Apollo 11 with a lunar eclipse visible from much of planet Earth. In this view part of the lunar disk is immersed in Earth's dark, reddened umbral shadow. Near the maximum eclipse phase, it just touches down along a mountain ridge. The rugged Tyrolean nightscape was recorded after moonrise south of Innsbruck, Austria with a dramatically lit communication tower along the ridgeline. Of course eclipses rarely travel alone. This partial lunar eclipse was at the Full Moon following July 2nd's New Moon and total eclipse of the Sun.

I keep trying to do good Milky Way photos and sometimes it works and others you just go with the flow! While I was taking this pic I was near a road so a semi passed by so it gave me the trail of lights you see here but even then I think 🤔 it’s not too bad! What do you think?

We’ve been doing Astrophotography together for 53 years now, and we’re still going strong! 🔭 💑
We imaged all the Messier objects 23 times, have appeared on APOD countless of times and have discovered 17 comets so far! 💫
Sure, we broke our backs setting up our heavy equipment thousands of times in the process but it was all worth it. Most importantly, we never got sick of each other :) Here is to the next 10 years under the stars ✨ 🍷

Here’s a closer look at the lagoon and Trifid nebula seen in the previous image, in this image, you can see Lagoon Nebula (M8), Trifid Nebula (M20) and IC 4685 (located on the far left). This is a 1hour integration as I ran into some software issues during the capture session and terminated early. As we are near the end of my Utah vacation photos this is one of my favorites. This night I was close to being done . With being tired and ready for bed I just wanted to go back to the cabin. But when I noticed the moon was setting the sky completely changed. The colors that came out of the sky were jaw dropping and I was witnessing a spectacular view of the Milky Way I had never seen before. Then I seen a dead tree leaning perpendicular to the stars I got my second wind and kept on shooting.

I recently went on a short overnight solo backpacking trip and got some decent shooting conditions. I hiked up a grueling 5 miles in a cloud and after setting up camp continued to wait patiently to see if the clouds would clear. Sunset came and went without the slightest hint of color and I tucked myself in with hopes that sunrise would fare better. I also knew that the milky way would align pretty nicely with this peak so I decided to set an alarm for midnight to see if the clouds had cleared. As my alarm buzzed I reluctantly pulled myself out into the cold night to see a sky full of twinkling stars. I bundled up and headed down to this spot noticing that the actual peak I had intended to shoot was still covered in a cloud.

I decided to set up my gear anyways and enjoy watching the stars for a while. I set my shutter release timer to continuously take shots so I could find a comfortable rock away from my tripod. As I sat there, the fog surrounding the mountain gradually started to thin and eventually completely cleared. It was a pretty fun experience to watch under a hint of moonlight as a slight waxing crescent moon set off to the right of this scene. After the moon had fully set I pulled out the star tracker and went to work collecting some yummy star data. All in all it was a pretty nice night!

The World at Night (TWAN)
Partial Lunar Eclipse from Atacama desert, Chile.
It was quite a scene! The already partially eclipsed golden Moon was rising above Andes mountains. I managed to capture few images with a tele-lens and planned the session using photopills . I hope you'll enjoy the view😊

May be considered forgotten but the coastal charm this place has, made the whole trip worth it. That and all the awesome people I met! @msriffle @dterryparker @michaelsimmonsphotography @sky_artistry @backroadsphotographyllc @kpm2477 THANK YOU! 🙏🏼❤️ Especially after what I read in the news! ⬇️⬇️⬇️

In October, a few weeks before Hurricane Michael, a shrimper/tug boat, the Donna Kay ran aground near the tip of Cape San Blas, on the western side.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Since its arrival, the Donna Kay became something of a beacon for visitors and residents of South Gulf County, who made the trek to the boat to scope.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For it was, in turn, something of a museum, log books in legible condition, the wheel intact, the cabin with provisions and equipment, providing a peek at life on the water.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Nothing lasts forever though and a crew arrived at the end of last week to take the vessel to a dryer home.

Hallo Freunde,

🇪🇺 Hello friends,
This picture is definitely one of my favorite pictures.
Antares & Rho Ophiuchi region, is for me one of the most beautiful and colorful regions in the night sky, where it pays to photograph with relatively short focal length. The contrast between yellow and blue reflection nebulae fascinates me again and again. For the shooting I invested 8 hours of exposure time and about 4 hours of processing time. I hope you enjoy it.

Looking deep into the eagle nebula 7,000 light years away in the constellation Serpens. At the heart of the nebula lie the pillars of creation: so called because the pillars a formed by the coagulation of dust in space which will eventually lead to the birth of new stars. In reality, this has already happened. At this moment the pillars no longer exist, but they still appear as they do because the light takes thousands of years to get here. This was images with my AT6RC and SBIG ST8300m, about 15hrs of exposure. Hope y’all enjoy!
