“As an inmate in the asylum of Saint Paul, Vincent could not venture out after dark to paint, as he preferred, directly under the stars. To paint a starry night, he could only watch from behind the bars of his bedroom window. In the small quadrant of the eastern sky that filled this little space, he would have seen the waning moon and the constellation Aries, as well as the faint blush of the Milky Way. In the predawn hours, Venus, the morning star, appeared prominently on the horizon—a perfect companion to an early wakening or a sleepless night.
.
“But ultimately, Van Gogh looked past the ‘real’ night sky in search of something truer to his vision of limitless possibility and inextinguishable light. Guided by feeling and instinct, he painted a night sky unlike any the world had ever seen with ordinary eyes: a kaleidoscope of pulsating beacons, whirlpools of stars, radiant clouds, and a moon that shone as brightly as any sun—a fireworks of cosmic light and energy only visible in Vincent’s head.”
.

Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty, was said to have been born of sea foam and floated to the shores of Cyprus on a scallop shell. Due to her affinity with water, as well as being the goddess of love, she protected sailors, had her image carved into ships and her star (Venus) was used to guide those on travels.
Channel your inner Aphrodite by taking a ritual bath with some rose quartz and repeating your favourite self-love affirmation 💗

🔸Giorgio Morandi
July 20, 1890 – June 18, 1964

 Accademia di Belle Arti.

"A young woman and her little son" - Agnolo Bronzino (1540)
🏛️ story:
"Who is this elegant lady? A noblewoman surely, and most likely a member of the court of Cosimo I de' Medici, Duke of Florence in the mid-sixteenth century. Her ornate and costly attire establish her as an aristocrat. She holds herself rigidly with the controlled demeanor that distinguishes portraits of members of Cosimo's court. Bronzino was the principal portraitist to the court, and one wonders how much his own coldly idealized, polished style of painting may, itself, have contributed to the taste for the marble-hard perfection and chilly hauteur of his models."

✍🏼Título: “Autorretrato”
👨🏼‍🎨Autor: Durero Alberto (Alemania, 1471-1528)
📆Fecha: 1498
⏳Período: Renacimiento Alemán
✂️Material: Óleo sobre tabla (52cm x 41cm)
📍Ubicación: Museo del Prado, Madrid (España)
〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️

this week I’ll be sharing the latest from my mini masterpiece series. first up, The Treachery of Images by René Magritte, 1929 | @lacma
Magritte is Belgian surrealist who is best known for witty, thought-provoking images. He often challenged viewers’ conceptions of reality and played with images and its relationship to text. Magritte’s oeuvre of work has influenced pop, minimalist and conceptual art.
what’s your favorite painting by Magritte?

Gyertek, nagyon bomba lesz!

Joan Mitchell and Jean-Paul Riopelle, pictured in Chicago in 1959.
_
A few days after Jean-Paul Riopelle met Joan Mitchell in Paris in 1954, Riopelle appeared at Mitchell's painting studio with a huge bouquet of rolled canvases from the Lefebvre-Foinet arts supplies store. Riopelle's gift marked the start of a turbulent 25-year relationship, during which he became the first contemporary Canadian artist to be recognized internationally, and Mitchell rose to a position of lasting importance in American abstraction.

🌼🌼🌼

The earliest history that can be established is the presence of the Piceni (or Picenti) people who were present in the area from the iron age (900-400 B.C.)up to the time when Roman domination became firmly established in the first century B.C.
Little is known of these people beyond what was written of them by the Roman Historians (such as Pliny and Tacitus), and a wealth of iron and bronze age tools, artistic artefacts
and domestic items that have been discovered and are now to be seen in local museums.
A lot of these items were found in the very heart of Montefiore, which indicates that it was probably a thriving, sophisticated community as long ago as the Iron Age. The large quantity of beautiful artefacts and tombs found here make Montefiore one of the most important Piceni
centres for the entire Marche region. ————————————————
1st picture:round objects in molton bronze adorned along the circumference typically with 4-6 nodes and almost always found in female tombs.
2nd picture: Armor of a Piceno warrior: a bronze Negau helmet (Volterra type)
3rd picture a collection of ceramic objects for the home found in graves.
Photographs taken in the Archaeological Museum of Cupra Marittima. Distance from Montefiore 12.5 km - 7.8 mi (15 min drive)————————————————

_______________________________________________ “Sun Goddess Amaterasu” | By: Yashima Gakutei (ca.1786-1868)
_______________________________________________
Created ca. 1827-29, this gorgeous print depicts Amaterasu (天照), Amaterasu-ōmikami (天照大神/天照大御神/天照皇大神), or Ōhirume-no-muchi-no-kami (大日孁貴神). She is a deity of Japanese mythology and also a major deity of the Shinto religion. She is seen as the goddess of the sun and the universe.
Records of the worship of Amaterasu are found from the Kojiki (ca. 712) and Nihon Shoki (ca. 720) the oldest records of Japanese history.
Because Amaterasu has the highest position among the Shinto deities, there has been debate among scholars on her influence and relation to women's positions in ancient Japanese society.
Some scholars have argued that the goddess' presence and high stature within the kami system could suggest that early rulers in Japan were mostly female.
Others have argued the goddess' presence implies a strong influence that female priests’ had in Japanese politics and religion.
Historians and scholars of the Old Ryukyu Kingdom, an independent kingdom that once ruled most of the Ryukyu islands, have argued that there were ambiguous power relations between the high priestess and King. They explain that the high priestess and other female religious officials, were considered to be integral figures amongst royal authority as women were a part of the high office.

Change is inevitable. Granddaughter lost her tooth today. It was hanging by a thread. Then it was out, dropped under the bed, found and pillowed for the Tooth Fairy. Joy and sadness. Things change.
.
I look at my paintings lined up and hopeful. I see my style has changed. I want to think that I can still be the old me and flourish my familiar styles and techniques all over the place, but I see I have moved on a bit. I am still me and my work is still identifiable, just a bit more mature. Sadness and joy.
.
Morphed. A tooth lost to make way for something bigger and better! 🦷 🧚‍♀️ .

Back in the 1890s, Toulouse-Lautrec was strongly inspired by Edgar Degas’ famed ballerinas. It looks as though René Gruau may have also drawn inspiration from one or both of these iconic artists in this 1947 illustration.
